About products and suppliers

Polo village shirts are incredibly popular and have an interesting history. Polo shirts also known as tennis shirts, golf shirts or chukker shirts are a form of shirt with a collar. While they are typically seen as having short sleeves, they can also have long sleeves. They were originally worn by polo players in India in the mid-19th century and were then adapted by players in the UK in the 1920s. Today's piqué polo was adapted from a shirt designed by tennis player Rene Lacoste in 1929. While originally only created for Lacoste, the design gained popularity and was adapted for public sales. Years later the style was adopted by another famous designer who imprinted it with a recognizable polo player emblem. Today polo shirts can be seen in a variety of styles and colors, with and without the traditional logos. They are worn by men, women and children as a casual to mid-dressy article of clothing.

What material are polo village shirts made of?

Polo shirts are usually made from knit cotton instead of woven cloth. They are typically made in a piqué knit though sometimes they can be manufactured in an interlock knit. While cotton is the traditional material, polo shirts can also be made from other fibers such as silk, wool, synthetics and synthetic blends. Many polo shirts have two to three buttons and some feature a breast pocket.

What is the difference between a polo shirt and a t-shirt?

The main difference between a t-shirt and a polo shirt is the collar featured on the polo but not the t-shirt. Other differences are material and use. A t-shirt is usually made from a lighter-weight fabric and is a very casual style shirt. Whereas a polo shirt is usually made from a knit cloth and can be worn to professional and semi-formal events.
